What I Got Up To This Month (September '26)

I'll be honest, this has been a rough month for me. I'm not entirely sure why, but I've been doing really badly lately. To be blunt, I haven't been taking care of myself and all I've been doing is mindlessly clicking on games and watching YouTube videos (well, even more-so than I usually do).  I know this is a bit more candid and personal than I usually get in these but, uh, maybe reach out if you care about me because I'm not doing well and I honestly don't see things changing for the better unless a miracle happens. Because I feel a bit of an obligation to keep this blog updated (despite the fact I know nobody reads it), I suppose I'll get to my usual updates, as jarring as that may seem after the, um, cry for help above. A bit of a routine and normalcy can be nice for me, at least.

After chipping away at it for a while, I finished Final Fantasy VII earlier this month. Despite hearing for decades that it was great, I didn't really believe just how good it'd be until I'd actually played it. It's good! I haven't played a whole lot of JRPGs (to be honest) but I can see why this game gets the praise it gets! I wrote about it in a bit more detail here, if you're curious. I followed that up by playing an obscene amount of Ever Crisis (which I'll also write about at some point). Lastly, I watched Advent Children and the Last Order OVA (two things I'll presumably also also write about in the near future). It's been a very FF7-heavy month for me.

With all of the Final Fantasy (and, um, personal stuff) I forgot to play any more of Yakuza 5. Whoops! I do intend to get back to it but my Final Fantasy-laden fugue state took precedence. Once I get into this game proper I imagine I'll like it, anyway. Here's a random screenshot of Kiryu (since I have nothing new to share).

I'm back in the Silent Hill mines because there's a new one out! SILENT HILL: Townfall is set in Scotland and, from the little I've played of it, it seems like a Silent Hill game alright. An abandoned foggy town with some strange monsters roaming about, there seems to be a lot to dig into there. I'm definitely going to get back to this soon but I've just had a lot on my plate. There was also a new Resident Evil movie that I thought was a pretty good adaptation of the vibes of those games (without necessarily being a straight copy of any one game's narrative). Definitely check it out if you like Resident Evil.

I know that's a pretty short update, and sorry to end on such a bummer here, but I truly have been doing terribly recently and I don't know that I see a way forward. I'm trying to be optimistic but I know blind optimism can only take me so far. I want things to improve, I just don't see a world where that happens and I'm genuinely trying my hardest to not think through what I mean by that. I meant what I wrote at the top; please reach out if you see this. I want to be able to believe I'm not completely alone.
