What I Got Up To This Month (February '26)

I mentioned last month that January was rough for me, and unfortunately February was no better. My mental health is... not good at the moment. And to make matters worse, I think Trump just started a fucking war with Iran. Because of... everything, I've been losing myself in various media even more than I usually do. I'm sure we could unpack that and I know it isn't particularly healthy, but, hey, it means I've got a fair amount of Content for all of you to read.

After hearing about it for years, I decided to finally watch Nirvana the Band the Show. If you aren't aware, this was a webseries from 2008 (or so) before becoming a proper TV show about a decade later, but the reason I got to it now was because I'd been hearing a lot of buzz about the new movie followup. The movie, Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, was a lot of fun, and even though I still haven't seen that TV show getting to see these two doofuses on the big screen was very very cool. I highly recommend seeking out these shows, and the movie, when you get the chance, because it's all very funny. Well, most of it. Some of the 2008 humor is, um, edgy for the sake of being edgy and has these guys saying things they should really not be saying.

I started the month by finishing Chrono Trigger and, holy moly, that is a fantastic game. I spent a long time trying to figure out why I liked it so much, and wrote a bit about it to hopefully convey some of my thoughts, but the fact of the matter is that this game almost immediately cemented itself as an all-timer for me. I still intend to get to Chrono Cross at some point, maybe even this year, but for now I'm just glad I played this. Finding out that one of the classics really is as good as everyone says is always a delight.

After looking forward to it for quite some time, the game Cairn finally released so I played through that. It was really great! I wrote about it back when I completed it, but this already feels like a lock for my GOTY list this year. It has a surprisingly affecting story, and some incredibly tactile controls that kept me hooked for the entire time I was playing it.

In the month or so since I returned to Final Fantasy XIV I have, uh, played a lot of Final Fantasy XIV. I mentioned last month that I didn't have much experience with the series, and that's still true, but now I've at least finished the early part of FFXIV; I've completed ARR. It's not perfect and it's still an MMO, for better or worse, but I had a fairly good time  because it actually got pretty engaging by the end (I also wrote about my experience with it), so I'm looking forward to the expansions because those are, allegedly, good without needing qualifiers.

I'll have more to say about this soon, probably next month, but I've also been playing a lot of Harvestella. This game is Square Enix's take on something like a Stardew Valley, and I've been having a good time. It takes that formula and combines it with a (somewhat) more traditional RPG, and the end result is something I really like. I have no idea how much longer I have in it, but I plan on writing about it whenever I finish it.

I'm still working my way through it, but a new Resident Evil came out! Resident Evil: Requiem (or RE9uiem as I like to think of it) is the first new Resident Evil game that I've been able to play at launch, and that's been exciting. Playing the Silent Hill 2 remake, along with f, right around launch was exciting and it's been cool to be able to jump into a Resident Evil thing without any real expectations. I will absolutely have more to say about this in the future.

With everything else I've been doing, Yakuza hasn't been too much on my mind. Well, the series has been on my mind a bit, but that's more of a general unease at the direction the series seems to be headed based on some information I've gleaned about Kiwami 3. I'm, um, really not sure what's going on over at RGG but I hope they can turn things around because I've really grown to love these games and it's been kind of heartbreaking to realize that, maybe, the good times are over and this series has lost its touch.
