And that's November. This month got off to a pretty crummy start for me due to some personal... family... stuff, but things quickly turned for the better. Anyway, the year is winding down so I've entered into my end-of-year GOTY cleanup period, so I've been making a point to play stuff I'd been avoiding and to finish stuff I'd started earlier in the year. I still, uh, have a lot of things I'd like to play before the year is up though so I imagine next month's post is going to seem similarly scattershot.
I played quite a few indie games this month. At the start of the month I played HYPERBEAT, a pretty fantastic rhythm game that had its hooks in me for a few days and which I highly recommend. Later in the month I played despelote, a relatively short narrative game about growing up in late '90s Ecuador as the country is gripped by World Cup fever, and it's a really well-made thing. After that, I got to and Roger, which wasn't quite what I expected but was incredibly fraught (and memorable).Playing through Legends Z-A last month, and working my way through X over the course of the year, has given me the Pokemon bug and I've fallen deep into a Pokemon hole as a result. For reasons I don't fully understand, I played through pretty much all of Pokemon Violet this month and I had a good time, all things considered. I had wanted to check this out for a while but avoided it because of its (apparently) horrid performance on the original Switch, but now that I have a Switch 2 I thought it'd be a good time to jump in and I'm glad I did. The game still has its issues, yes, but it's a fun enough time and I got to catch my little creatures so I was happy.I finished a game I'd been chipping away at for a while: Donkey Kong Bananza. It was a lot of fun, so while I may not be as hot on it as I was when I initially started it I still had a great time. Like Super Mario Odyssey before it, it all culminates in a really satisfying finale that makes me wonder what a whole game that focused could have been like, as much as I enjoyed the open-ended sandbox nature of the rest of it.I also played through Cronos: The New Dawn this month. It's another in the lineage of Resident Evil 4 and Dead Space, and in some ways it maybe lives up to those games. It's an excellent survival-horror game with some solid combat and good atmosphere, I'd recommend it to anyone who's a fan of horror stuff (or just RE4/Dead Space in general). I have a writeup on it if you feel like reading more of my thoughts.Once again, this was a month with no Yakuza progress. I do plan to get back to it, and I'm definitely looking forward to Kurohyou 2 given how much I loved the first one, but as you can see I've been playing other stuff lately and it's kind of been nice to take a break from Yakuza, at least for a bit. The only Yakuza thing I've done lately is make some Miis of a couple characters, so here's an Akiyama for your troubles.
