What I Got Up To This Month (June '25)

June! My birthday month has once again come and gone and with that I'm now a year older. It's hard to believe that, but it's true! I'm still trying to figure my life out and things continue to feel difficult and hopeless at times but, you know, I'm managing. Things are... fine? I'm trying my best to keep a positive attitude, despite everything.

I, uh, got a Switch 2 a few days ago. It was somewhat an impulsive purchase, but it's something I've known I'd want before the end of the year and as I've been worried about tariffs and other external factors impacting stock and availability, I wanted to make sure I got one while it was still pretty accessible (and before the price goes up, which seems like a very real possibility). I haven't done much with it yet outside of a little Mario Kart World and testing out some backwards compatibility, but to be fair that's about all there is to do with a Switch 2 at this point. There aren't exactly a ton of exclusive games for it.

I finished Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 this month and I absolutely adored it. I wrote about it at the time (and also made this video, for those who'd rather listen to what I have to say than read it) but that game is something special. It combines real-time action combat mechanics with a generally turn-based system akin to a JRPG, and the end result is something that feels unique. The story and music are also fantastic, really, I could go on about this for a long time but, suffice it to say, this game is absolutely worth your time.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach came out this month. I enjoyed the first game when I played it a few months ago and I like what I've played of this one so far. I think both games have their flaws, but they're interesting and going for something not a lot of big AAA games are going for so I have a lot of respect for them. I have no idea how long this game is going to take me, but I'm looking forward to playing more of it.

I haven't finished any more Yakuza games this month, but I have made some serious progress in Yakuza 4. The game's divided into four parts (well, four parts and a finale, I believe) and I'm pretty early on in Part 3. It's been really good so far. A departure from earlier games in a way due to its structure, but not an entirely unwelcome one. They've created a good world and it's fun to have some new perspectives on it.
