What I Got Up To This Month (May '25)

This has been quite a month. While I have made some progress with my therapist these last few weeks, my mood in general has been pretty down because some rough stuff happened. You see, I thought I had a job lined up but, after some correspondence, it became clear that the person I was interacting with was just a scammer trying to con me out of some money. I caught it before things got too far, but as someone who's very cognizant of my lack-of-a-job it really, really, really sucked having the rug pulled out from under me when I thought things were finally changing for the better.

I started a few big games this month, though I haven't made much progress in either. I began Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and that game has a heck of an intro. Sure, the opening prologue is strong, but even the start of the first act proper gets things going fast. I'm eagerly looking forward to playing more. I also started The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-, the new game from Kodaka and Uchikoshi, and I like what I've seen of that so far. Once again, not very deep into it, but the characters and basic premise seem good and all of the praise I've seen around this game makes me want to keep going.

A lot of games media news happened this month. At the start of May Polygon was effectively sold and stripped for parts and at roughly the same time it looked like Giant Bomb was similarly shutdown, but things changed. While Polygon is still a shell of its former self, Giant Bomb announced they had been sold to, um, Giant Bomb and were no longer under Fandom's control. As a longtime fan of the site (who's, admittedly, been away from it for a while) I was stoked to see that it was back and seems to be in the best possible hands.

I played quite a bit of Assassin's Creed this month. I'd been chipping away at Mirage for a while and I finally finished it, and I had a pretty good time. It's a fairly short game, as far as this series goes, so it was nice to play one of these that respected my time. After I hit credits on that, I started Assassin's Creed Shadows and I've been enjoying that, even though it seems like a much, much, much longer game. I happen to enjoy having a big mindless open-world game to traipse around in though so I imagine I'll be working at this for some time, at least as long as I'm still enjoying it.

Oh! Because I'm not sure where else to put this, I made a few more videos for my YouTube channel. I converted my Death Stranding article and my Star Wars Outlaws article into a video on Death Stranding and a video on Star Wars Outlaws, respectively, so if you haven't read either of those yet you can check out those videos to get the same general idea of what I had to say. Maybe the videos aren't all that interesting, but I enjoyed the editing process, at least.

I've been updating these blogs with my Yakuza progress for the past few months but I, uh, haven't played any more Yakuza 4 this month. Oops. I promise I'll get back to it, I've just been distracted by other things these last few weeks. I imagine I'll still be playing the games mentioned earlier in this blog post, and there's at least one big game coming out next month I intend to get to, but Yakuza 4 has not slipped my mind.
